If you’re planning a visit to Hakone, maybe after you’ve read my recommended itinerary and you are wondering where to stay in Hakone or what are the best ryokan in hakone, you will be happy to know that it offers unique accommodation options to suit your budget and desires.

Experience Japanese Culture: Splurge on a stay at a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, and enjoy a truly cultural experience. Ryokans typically feature an onsen and often include multi-course Japanese meals served directly in your room. Fukuzumiro Ryokan (on Expedia or Agoda)is a highly recommended option for a luxurious ryokan experience.

Budget-Friendly Option: Opt for a hostel with an onsen. This provides a more social atmosphere while still allowing you to experience the relaxing onsen baths. Consider Onsen Guesthouse Hakone Tent (book on Expedia or Agoda) for a budget-friendly option with an onsen.

Booking your Stay: Use online travel platforms like Agoda or Expedia.com to compare hotel prices and find the best deal for your chosen accommodation type. Agoda is particularly recommended for booking hotels in Asia.

Best accomodation to stay in Hakone on a budget

On my second Hakone trip, I opted for a budget-friendly stay at Onsen Guesthouse Hakone TENT in Gora (check them out on Expedia.com or Agoda). This quirky hostel truly impressed me!

Back then, they offered both dorm rooms and private options. The real highlight? Two private hot springs on-site, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. To my surprise, they even had a delicious pizza restaurant – a welcome treat for weary travelers. The friendly and helpful staff added to the overall charm and welcoming atmosphere.

Important Note: Unfortunately, it seems dorm rooms are no longer available on booking platforms like Agoda. Additionally, current prices might not be ideal for budget travelers.

Don’t worry, though! Here are some alternative highly-rated and budget-friendly options for your Hakone adventure:
