Or, you can plan your day trip to Mt.Fuji from Tokyo by yourself. Both have pros and cons, for example ditching the tour group can be way more fun and gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. On the other hand it needs more effort, planning and information gathering upfront.

Getting There
Bus: You can catch a highway bus from Shinjuku or Shibuya Station in Tokyo. The ride takes about 2 hours and 25 minutes and costs around ¥1,800. There are multiple buses throughout the day, so you can choose a time that works for you.
Train: If you want a bit more scenic journey, hop on the Fuji Excursion train from Shinjuku Station. It’s a little pricier (¥1,600 for adults, ¥900 for kids), but the views are amazing. The train will take you to Fujikyu-Highland or Kawaguchiko, both of which are great starting points for exploring Mt. Fuji.
Trains are typically the most convenient and efficient way to explore Japan. I highly recommend using them for your trip. For a smoother journey, consider downloading other helpful apps.
Chartered Car: This is the most expensive option, but it gives you ultimate flexibility. You can hire a private driver or rent a car and create your own itinerary. This is perfect if you want to stop at different spots along the way or explore some hidden gems. Expect to pay around ¥53,000 for a chartered car.
Things to Do
Hiking: If you’re feeling adventurous, hike up Mt. Fuji! There are different trails to choose from, ranging in difficulty. Lake Kawaguchiko: My favorite location for Mt.Fuji sightseeing. This beautiful lake offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji. You can take a boat ride, visit the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery. I also recommend, if possible, to plan at least a 2 days visit of this area, and stay overnight in Lake Kawaguchi.
Fujikyu Highland: This amusement park has a variety of rides and attractions, including the world-famous Fujiyama roller coaster. It’s a fun way to spend a few hours and get some adrenaline pumping.
Oshino Hakkai: This scenic spot features eight ponds that are fed by the melting snow from Mt. Fuji. It’s a peaceful place to stroll and take in the natural beauty.
Chureito Pagoda: is a must-visit for many Japan travelers, known for its breathtaking views. While it’s not directly in Kawaguchi-ko, it’s easily accessible and offers a fantastic addition to your trip.

- A 1, 2 or 3 days pass that allows you into the most interesting attraction in the area: Fujikyu Railway (from Otsuki Station to Kawaguchiko Station), Access to Fujikyu Bus, Fuji-Q Highland (includes admission ticket to 1 attraction of your choice), Grinpa Amusement Park, Narusawa Ice Cave and Fugaku Wind Cave, Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, Kawaguchiko Excursion Ship ‘Appare’, Yamanakako Excursion Ship ‘Swan Lake’)
- Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway Round-trip Ticket
- I recommend taking the Panoramic Ropeway from Lake Kawaguchi to enjoy a very breathtaking sight of the Lake and the Fuji itself. I leave you a photo taken from this belvedere during my last trip, but be there is another story.

Time of the year to Visit Mt.Fuji
You’re in for a treat! Mt. Fuji is beautiful year-round, but each season brings its own unique charm. Here’s a breakdown of the best times to visit based on what you want to see and do:
Spring (April-May):
