Asakusa Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Asakusa, Tokyo, next to the main hall of Senso-ji Temple. It is dedicated to the god of the Sumida River, and is one of the most popular shrines in Tokyo.

The shrine was founded in the 7th century and has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. The current shrine was built in 1649.

The main hall of the shrine is home to a statue of the god of the Sumida River. The shrine also has a number of other buildings, including a bell tower and a water fountain.

Asakusa Shrine is a popular tourist destination and is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free.

It is only 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station to Sensoji, taking the JR Yamanote Line to Kanda Station and then the Ginza Line to Asakusa Station.

From Shinjuku Station, Sensoji is only 20 minutes on the JR Chuo Line and the Ginza Line. The temple is only a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Station.

If you’re looking for a traditional Japanese experience, I recommend visiting Asakusa Shrine. It is a must-see for any visitor to Tokyo and since you’re going for sure to see the magnificient Senso-Ji temple, be sure to not miss this shrine to which is in the same area.

Here are some additional tips for visiting Asakusa Shrine:

  • Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of walking.
  • Bring a camera. You’ll want to capture the amazing views.
  • Be respectful of the shrine. It is a sacred place, so be sure to dress appropriately and be quiet.
  • Visit during the day or at night. The shrine looks different at different times of day.
